Christmas

Dear Journey Family and Friends,

This week is Christmas. It is about a baby, new parents, shepherds, angels and Magi. It is about promise and light and gifts.

I’ve been giving a good deal of thought to gifts.

Last week, we had the opportunity to create 50 bags for the homeless. We called them blessing bags. We took time for this project because the children from Casa Blanca Community School chose to spend time with us to make gifts for those who have nothing. They were excited and had fun creating the gifts. They gave of their time, energy and enthusiasm — they were generous because they believed in the cause.

A couple of weeks ago, we learned that the Little League for Maricopa was seeking sponsors. Our church decided to try to sponsor a team. Over the past two weeks, we set a goal to $300. Journey gave $900 – three times the amount of our goal! We will be sponsoring two teams, and Journey UMC will have information posted weekly during the spring Little League season — on Saturdays, where dozens of people gather to play ball. Journey believes that children and families and sports are important in creating community. Journey has been generous because we believe in the cause.

There is no gift that compares to the gift we all receive each Christmas: God’s unconditional love and grace. It is a gift without comparison and a gift that is truly priceless. God gives so generously because God believes in the cause — us. WE are the cause — humanity. For God so loved the world… this is the cause.
