“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” – Psalm 55:22
In 1972, singer Bill Withers released his Billboard-topping, hit single “Lean On Me”. The song has an inspiring message about love and support and is commonly played at charity events. The beginning of the song goes something like this:
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain, We all have sorrow.
But if we are wise, we know that there’s always tomorrow.
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need Somebody to lean on.
One of the best ways we can deal with our cares, our worries, and our anxieties is to have someone to lean on. We can turn to our family members, spouses, or close friends to get us through those difficult moments. Or we can seek out support groups and connect with others who have experienced or are experiencing similar issues. The key is to have someone with whom we can share our troubles, someone who will listen and understand what we’re going through. While it’s great to have earthly support structures in place, sometimes we need something more.
The Bible tells us, in both the Old and New Testaments, that we can always turn to God for help. We’re told to cast our anxieties and our cares on Him, and that He will sustain us. There’s only so much our support groups, friends, and family can do for us because they can only understand us and our problems to a certain extent. However, our Creator and loving Father God, knows us more deeply than anyone else. God knows exactly what we’re going through, and God is always willing to listen to our prayers.
So turn to the Lord, because He understands and loves you more than anyone else. There’s no better support than that.
