Reflections: Advent: The Peace of Christ

John 14:25-27

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Peace is not easy to find and in short supply. Despite our best efforts, peace often eludes us. We live in a world full of conflict and discord, and finding peace on both a societal and personal level is extremely difficult. So the question is: how can we find peace? Who can give us a sense of tranquility in the midst of life’s storms? The answer is Jesus. Our verses from John tell us of how Jesus gives a special kind of peace that the world cannot offer. During Advent, let’s turn to Christ and ask for His peace; a peace that removes all fear and calms our hearts.

Reflection Questions:

Please read and think about each question as it applies to your Christian journey with Christ.

  • In what areas of your life do you need the most peace? What does it mean to experience the peace of Christ?
  • Have there been times when you’ve asked God for peace? What was the result? Where did you find the most peace?

Lord, as we journey through the Advent season, give us the peace of Christ that transcends our understanding. Give us the calmness of heart and mind so we can see what’s important. Help us to become better servants for your kingdom by being people who experience and share this wonderful peace with the world. Amen.
