Scripture for the Week

16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:16-17

Reflections: A Reason to Give Thanks

2 Corinthians 4:15-16

15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Thanksgiving is a time and season to remember God’s many blessings on our lives. We take great joy in being part of God’s family, and participating in His amazing ministry for the world. During this special season, let’s remember to give thanks to God for everything; our blessings, our trials, and our opportunities.

Reflection Questions:

Please read and think about each question as it applies to your Christian journey with Christ.
  • What are you most thankful for this day? How can your worship to God express your thanks?
  • Have you ever considered your trials a blessing, or an opportunity for ministry?

Lord, you are more generous and more loving than we could ever imagine. Let us not waste our time, talents, and treasures on ourselves, but rather, let us use all of our blessings for your work in this world. Let the way we serve be a testimony of our gratitude for all you have done. Amen.

Across the Connection

We can choose how we perceive things; we can choose the kind of world we create and live in. We choose how we react.

We can choose to focus on what we’re blessed with or we can choose to lament on what we don’t have.

The point is, we get to choose. It’s just gratitude isn’t often the go-to emotion we choose. We have the choice of how much power we give to our emotions and our responses. We tend to give more power and a bit more of a starring role to things like fear, grief, frustration, anger, regret, anxiousness, jealousy.

Stan Lee and the Heroes Within

You aren’t strong enough.
You’re a freak.
No one will understand.
You can’t make a difference.
That’s not for you.

I’ve heard those phrases in my head. So have many of our favorite superheroes. These words are the voice of the inner critic. The inner critic apparently wants the best version of our favorite superheroes to stay under wraps, hidden away behind the veneer of some mild-mannered alter ego. It’s the kind of internal conflict that made the characters of the late Stan Lee so appealing to us.
