Scripture for the Week

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

Thoughts & Prayers

Dear God
Please remember all those in our congregation who are dealing with health issues including Chuck Larrain and Connie Hancock and for those who are traveling.

Also please pray for the future of our denomination; please pray for God’s guidance and will to be done in the United Methodist Church.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us
. - 1 John 5:15 (NIV)

Reflections: Stewarding our Talents

Ephesians 4:11-13

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Each of us has a special talent, perhaps some are blessed with more than one. We may be gifted with physical prowess, academic ability, or creative skills. Whatever our talent is, we must use it for the glory of God. As we continue onward through the stewardship season, we must focus on the giving of our talents, in addition to our time and treasures. Let’s remember these two points from Pastor Terry’s sermon:
  1. Stewarding our talents means we use what we’ve been given for God’s kingdom
  2. Stewarding our talents will grow our faith

Reflection Questions:

Please read and think about each question as it applies to your Christian journey with Christ.
  • Do you recognize your God-given talent or talents? How have you been using them for ministry, for God’s people and purpose?
  • What do you think is the connection between stewarding our talents and the growing of our faith?

Lord, help us to recognize your blessings, especially how you’ve blessed us with talents. Make us aware of our gifts so we can steward them for your glory. Let us look outwardly at your mission and plan for this world and do our best, using what you’ve equipped us with, to help those around us. Amen.

Across the Connection

The life of a United Methodist pastor is filled with a variety of responsibilities. They preach, teach, visit, counsel, lead, consult, communicate, budget, clean, and so much more.

Pastoring a church is not a job that can be done well under the pastor’s power alone. Every pastor relies heavily on God’s guidance, strength and peace as they live into their call.

One of the best ways we can support our pastors and show them our appreciation is to regularly pray for them. But it can be difficult to know exactly what we should pray for. To help get started, we’ve assembled fifteen areas of pastors’ lives and ministries where they would value your prayers.
